USE CAUTION MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING E-bikes weigh a lot more than non-electric bikes and require more effort to mount and dismount.  Regular maintenance is necessary, maintain your electric bike through professional bike mechanics if you are not familiar or experienced with electric bikes.  Treat your investment as your would treat your automobile. 

ALWAYS TURN YOUR BIKE OFF BEFORE DISMOUNTING YOUR E-BIKE.  NOT DOING SO CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO SELF AND/OR OTHERS.  ALWAYS EXERCISE EXTREMELY CAUTION WHEN AROUND CHILDREN AND OTHERS.  DO NOT LEAVE THE BIKE UNATTENDED IN THE ON POSITION.

TURN BIKE IN OFF POSITION BEFORE DISMOUNTING BIKE Bike is capable of exerting extreme force if peddle is jarred or throttle turned.  Death or injury can occur by not turning your e-bike off when not in use.  

 

ALWAYS TURN BIKE IN OFF POSITION WHEN NOT IN USE, NOT DOING SO CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO HUMAN LIFE.

 

WEAR A HELMET  Under Canadian regulations, electric bicycles with a motor output not exceeding 500 watts and maximum speed 32 km/hour are street legal.

It is important for you to check your local laws to ensure that you are riding legally and safely.

 

MUST BE 16 YEARS OF AGE Under Canadian regulations, persons under the age of 16 years cannot legally ride or be a passenger on an electric bicycle.

 

USE YOUR HORN AND LIGHTS KEEP OTHERS AWARE OR YOUR PRESENCE Always ride with a front and rear light, wear brightly coloured clothing, and use reflective tape while riding.  Make sure to safety check your e-bike before each ride.

 

CHECK YOUR FEET You must wear proper foot wear while riding your electric bike, not doing so can result in injury or accident.  Select closed toed shoes that do not slip off easily. 

 

CHECK AND ADJUST YOUR MIRRORS AND HEIGHT BEFORE EACH RIDE  An electric bicycle must be treated in with the same respect and safety as an automobile. Just like your car, minimize the amount of time you move your head from looking straight a head.   Always check comfort, height, feet must hit the ground, check your mirrors and adjust if needed to see.  Always stay aware on your electric bicycle, wear your helmet and never ride impaired.  Always watch for others while on your electric bicycle, not doing so could result in injury or death.

 

INSPECT YOUR TIRES AND AIR PRESSURE BEFORE EACH RIDE Having the correct tire pressure is an important part of your e-bike care and maintenance.  Under-inflation or over-inflation can excellerate wear and tear, and reduce tire traction with the road.

A critical part of your e-bike is the wheels, always check the tightness of the wheel axle nuts of the front and back wheels, this is essential to the safe use of the bike.

 

INSPECT THE CRANK Ensure the crank pedal arms are tightened before each ride.

 

DO NOT TOUCH THE BIKE CHAIN WHEN E-BIKE IS ON! DOING SO TO CAN RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH. ALWAYS TURN E-BIKE OFF, CAREFULLY REMOVE BATTERY IF BIKE CHAIN NEEDS TO BE ATTENDED TO.  IF YOU ARE NOT EQUIPPED OR HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE TO DO SO, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR WATT BIKE DEALER, OR HAVE YOUR BIKE SERVICED BY A KNOWLEDGABLE AND REPUTABLE BIKE TECHNICIAN.

 

CHECK YOUR BRAKES BEFORE EACH RIDE Ensure breaks are working correctly and properly secured.  When braking, apply the rear brake first, the the front brake or squeeze both brake levers evenly when slowing.  Squeezing only the front brake can cause excessive stress and/or damage to the bike and parts and/or loss of control.  Applying the brakes incorrectly may cause serious injury.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Brakes Safety Check

 

Ensure front and back brake levers touch the handlebar when you fully squeeze the brake levers.

 

Check brake pads for wear and ensure that they are not over worn.

 

Make sure brake pads are correctly positioned in relation to the brake rotor

 

Check the brake cables are correctly adjusted and do not display obvious wear.

 

Ensure brake control levers are lubricated and tightly secured to the handlebars.

 

Test the brake, motor cutoff functions, and brake light. Make sure they are functioning properly when the brake levers are squeezed.

 

WHEN BIKE TURNED OFF AND BATTERY REMOVED, REGULARLY CLEAN THE ROTAR WITH ALCOHOL TO PREVENT BREAKS FROM SQUEAKING.

 

DO NOT USE OR SPRAY ANY TYPE OF OILS ON BREAKS DOING SO CAN RESULT IN BRAKE INEFFICENTCY AND SQUEAKING.  

 

NEVER SPRAY BRAKES WITH WD40.   

 

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, SKILL AND TOOLS TO COMPLETE MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT OF YOUR BRAKES, PLEASE CONSULT A BIKE TECHNICIAN.

 

BECOME FAMILIAR AND ACCUSTOMED TO YOUR E-BIKE  For your safety and others, the user must become accustomed to power controls before riding.  We recommend that you ride your new watt bike electric bike in an open area and set the power assist level to “0”.  Once you become more confident operating your electric bike, increase the power assist.

 

WHEN WALKING OR CARRYING YOUR BIKE, TURN THE POWER OFF TO AVOID ACCIDENTALLY SWITCHING ON THE MOTOR.

 

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR BATTERY SITTING ON THE CHARGER AFTER IT IS FULLY CHARGED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME  Leaving your battery on the charger after it is fully charged can result in overcharging.  Overcharging your battery can lead to decreased battery performance over its lifetime.  Overcharging can create a situation wherein the battery will discharge leaving it at 95 percent of capacity.  Remove the charger from the battery within one hour after it has been completely charged.  The battery can be charged after each use.  Charging the battery after short rides will not cause damage.  

 

DO NOT CHARGE YOUR BATTERY IN TEMPERATURES UNDER 40 DEGREES CELSIUS.  DOING SO WILL DAMAGE YOUR BATTERY.

 

BATTERY HAZARDS Do not charge the battery in a wet and/or humid place or anywhere exposed to strong sunlight.  Always charge the battery with the supplied charger only not doing so could result in explosion or fire.  Do not leave the battery unattended while charging.  Charge the battery on a non-inflammable surface with a smoke/fire detector nearby.  

WARNING- FAILURE TO FOLLOW PROPER CHARGING PROCEDURES MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO YOUR BATTERY, CHARGER, AND OTHER PERSONAL PROPERTY.

 

 

CHARGE YOUR BATTERY REGULARLY Lithium chemistry batteries used on electric bicycles should last longer with regular use, and regular charging.  You do not necessarily need to let your electric bike battery to discharge completely.  Try to charge the battery when there is between 30 percent and 60 percent of the capacity remaining. 

 

 

DO NOT STORE AN EMPTY BATTERY Rather look for it to have about 40 to 70 percent of its full capacity in a totally dry area, away from combustible material in a temperature between 0 degrees C and 20 degrees C.  Keep battery indoors during extreme weather.

 

DO NOT TOUCH THE “+” AND “-“ TERMINAL CONTACTS WHEN BATTERY IS REMOVED FROM THE BIKE

 

USE CAUTION TO AVOID DAMAGES TO THE BATTERY CONNECTOR TERMINALS, WHICH ARE EXPOSED WHEN THE BATTERY IS UNLOCKED AND REMOVED FROM THE BIKE.  IN THE CASE OF DAMAGE TO THE TERMINALS OR BATTERY MOUNTS, DISCONTINUE USE AND CONTACT WATT BIKES IMMEDIATELY.  

 

NEVER USE A BATTERY CHARGER THAT HAS DAMAGE TO IT.   Check that the charging system is in good working order before use.

 

Incorrect assembly, maintenance, or use of your electric bike can cause component or performance failure, loss of control, serious injury or death.  Even if you’re an experienced rider, you must read and understand the entire manual and any documentation provided for subcomponents or accessories before riding.  If you are not sure you have the experience , skills, and tools to correctly perform all assembly steps in the manual please contact a local reputable bicycle mechanic technician. 

 

Do not ride any bike under the influence of a controlled substance.  Doing so can result in damage, injury, death, or criminal charges. 

 

As a parent or guardian, you are responsible for the activities and safety of your children.  Children under the age of 16 years can not legally ride an electric bike in Canada.  To reduce risk of injury, close supervision is necessary when the product is used near children.

 

Always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding.

 

It’s your responsibility to familiarize yourself with the local laws, rules, and regulations. 

 

It is recommended not to ride at night if avoidable.  If you do so, wear reflective or light bright clothing and reflective tape.  Slow down and use familiar roads, if possible.  Ensure tire wall, pedal, and other reflectors are installed and unobstructed.

 

Ensure head light and taillight/brake light are functioning correctly and use them.

 

It is recommended to not ride in wet weather if avoidable.  If unavoidable, reduce speed, and take extra care when riding in wet weather conditions.  Decrease speed to help you control the bike in slippery conditions.  Brake earlier since it will take you longer to slow.  take care to me more visible to others on the road.  Road hazards are more difficult to see when wet; please proceed with caution.

 

 

Like any sport, bicycling involves the risk of damage, injury, and death.  By choosing to ride a bike, you assume the responsibility for that risk.  Know and understand that practise and the rules of safe and responsible riding and proper use and maintenance of this bike.  

Proper use and maintenance of your bike reduces the risks of damage, injury, and death.
